Raised in Mamelodi, Lesego Maako reveals that her journey into law was rooted in a deep sense of justice shaped by her community. The phrase, “Just a kasi girl with big dreams”, is very familiar to many of us and was frequently heard while growing up. For Lesego Maako, this phrase carried so much meaning because her dreams turned into reality and today, she is a living testimony that indeed you can be a kasi girl with big dreams because no dream is too big.
“The film ‘Sarafina’ has had a profound impact on my life, leaving an indelible mark on my perception of justice and inspiring my career aspirations. “As I matured, my understanding of justice evolved. I became increasingly aware of the crime and abuse perpetrated by individuals within my own community, and my focus shifted to advocating for victims who cannot defend themselves.
“To me, law is not merely a profession, but an innate passion driven by a sense of purpose,” she told “Independent Media Lifestyle” in an interview. She also revealed that another reason she pursued a career in the legal profession was due to the high crime rate in her hometown.
