Former Information MinisterChishimba Kambwilihas admitted guilt to a charge of illegally entering Zimbabwe in 2024 after changing his earlier plea of not guilty. Kambwili, a former senior member of thePatriotic Front, withdrew his previous plea when he appeared before Lusaka MagistrateGeorge Njobvu. Following the change of plea, Magistrate Njobvu setJune 4, 2026as the date for judgment in the matter.
The court heard that Mr. Kambwili allegedly crossed intoZimbabweunlawfully in January 2024 without completing the required exit procedures at theChirundu Border Control. The offence is contrary to Section 16(1), read together with Section 56(1), of the Immigration and Deportation Act No.
18 of 2010. Under Zambian law, any person leaving the country is required to report to an immigration officer and complete clearance formalities before departure.
