On 26 May 2024, an X (formerly Twitter) user Joseph Kalimbwe,@joseph_kalimbwe, posted a message claiming that Standard Bank had set its headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia after quitting Harare, having operated in Zimbabwe for 130 years Kalimbwe added: ‘Banks have no time for politics, when they see the economy isn’t favorable, they just pack their bags & leave!!!’
