Recent events show this pattern in motion once again.

Just days before the planned **Geza demonstration of 31 March**, a  “Daddy” character suddenly appeared with sensational claims: soldiers had deserted the army, AK rifles had been stolen, and properties were being bombed.

The scare-mongering was eerily similar to 1982, when Joshua Nkomo was falsely accused of plotting armed rebellion, paving the way for his political neutralisation — a process Zimbabweans came to call being “Nkomorised. ”The same methods appear designed to entrap even Mnangagwa’s close colleagues.

Analysts note that if **Vice President Constantino Chiwenga** had taken the bait of the “fake fires” narrative in March, he could easily have been set up for political elimination.

And then there is **Nelson Chamisa**, the opposition leader who has consistently mobilised hope and faith among Zimbabweans.

His frequent use of biblical imagery has been a rallying point for millions yearning for change.

Yet Mnangagwa’s propagandists twist this strength into a weakness, attempting to portray Chamisa as a dangerous populist.

Far from being destabilising, Chamisa’s message of peace and renewal has been one of the few stabilising forces in a country suffocated by state-engineered crises.

The pattern is hard to ignore.

In **2018**, as Mnangagwa fought to secure his first full term, the election was tainted by sudden outbreaks of violence, disputed ballot counts, and military intervention in the streets — all reminiscent of earlier decades.

These moments weren’t accidents; they were carefully choreographed to tilt the political field in Mnangagwa’s favour.

The recurring question is: **who is Mnangagwa using today to implement these schemes? ** Are these shadowy “Daddy characters” extensions of the same state machinery that has been in motion since 1980, or are new players being enlisted to do the same old job?

What remains clear is that Zimbabwe’s politics is trapped in a cycle where hope, whether expressed by Nkomo, Chiwenga, or Chamisa, is systematically undermined.

And at the center of the cycle, Mnangagwa’s survival depends on the very dirty tactics that have scarred the nation for over forty years.

If Gen Chiwenga had followed the fake fires in March, he’d have been ‘Nkomorised’; if he’d used the Bible verses, chaibva ‘Chamiswa saChamisa. ’ But who’s ED using to achieve all this? 👇 😳3 days before the Geza demo, on 28 March, a Daddy character announced that soldiers have…https://t. co/Hn8KhXSFAxpic. twitter. com/t7JxqJg0x6. 🔗
