FCB Nyasa Bullets interim coach Gilbert Chirwa has submitted his application to the club for a permanent role as head coach. The People’s Team advertised the position last week and after two days, the club’s acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said they had received 16 applications, including two Malawians. In an interview yesterday, Chirwa, who has won all the four matches that he has been in charge of so far, said he handed in his application on Friday.
“I meet the requirements, so I have applied for the job,” said the Uefa B and CAF A licences’ holder. During a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Castel Challenge Cup quarter-final against Mighty Tigers, the Bullets and Flames legend said he was not under pressure that the team had advertised the post. “The club made it clear that my appointment was on interim basis.
So, I don’t have any pressure,” he said. Last week, Chigoga also played down suggestions that flighting the advert meant that the club had no confidence in Chirwa. “We made it categorically cleat that Agidze [Chirwa] was engaged as an interim coach up to the end of the season.

But he is eligible to apply for the post,” he said. Under Chirwa, Bullets beat Mzuzu City Hammers 4-0 in their last TNM Super League fixture and went on to win 3-0 against Songwe Border United, 3-1 over Ndirande Stars and 2-0 against Mighty Tigers in the Castel Challenge Cup. Among the local coaches who have applied for the post is former Flames coach Ernest Mtawali, who holds Uefa A and CAF A licences.
