THE Department of Immigration has detained 90 Ethiopian nationals, 30 of whom were found in a Lusaka-bound ambulance belonging to Altaf Memorial Hospital. In a statement, Monday, Department Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka stated that the ambulance, which was intercepted at Kacholola Checkpoint, was approaching with sirens fully engaged in an attempt to secure unhindered passage but was stopped and searched. “The Department of Immigration, in the early hours of Sunday, 25th January, 2026, uncovered migrant smuggling networks using an ambulance and private vehicles after intercepting and detaining over 90 Ethiopian nationals for immigration-related offences in coordinated operations conducted in Nyimba, Siavonga and Mpika Districts.
