Celebrated entertainer Ian von Memerty has passed away at age 61. Ian von Memerty, the much-loved South African TV personality known for his energetic and lively presence, has died by suicide at the age of 61. He was a household name, particularly famous for hosting “Strictly Come Dancing” from 2006 to 2008 and serving as a judge on “SA’s Got Talent” from 2009 to 2012.
Von Memerty co-hosted “Muzik a la Carte” with Sandy Ngema early in his career. A spokesperson confirmed the news in a brief statement that read: “We are sad to announce that our belovedIan von Memertypassed away at the age of 61 in Johannesburg in the early hours of 23 February 2026. “As a family, we have done everything we can to love & respect him on his journey. “We ask for privacy & respect as we deal with our own pain, having lost someone we’ve loved very much.”
