The Table Mountain Cableway Company is urging visitors and hikers to take precautions during the Western Cape heatwave, with temperatures climbing into the 40s this week. Visitors heading toTable Mountainthis week are being urged to take extra precautions as extreme heat grips the Western Cape. TheTable Mountain Aerial Cableway Company(TMACC) said temperatures across parts of the province had climbed into the 40s, with cooler conditions expected only later in the week.

While clear skies and warm conditions are drawing visitors to the mountain, the company warned that the heat increases risks for hikers and outdoor staff. TMACC said high temperatures were also placing additional pressure on the province’s water reserves as evaporation and demand increase. Managing directorWahida Parkersaid the company had reminded staff working outdoors to prioritise hydration and sun protection during the extreme conditions.

“Staff safety is a top priority, and at TMACC we have reminded all employees working outdoors to prioritise their well-being by staying hydrated, applying sunblock, and wearing sun hats throughout their shifts particularly under the extreme conditions,” she said. Parker said visitors should also take steps to prepare before exploring the mountain. “We encourage every visitor and hiker to stay hydrated, and to dress in a way that prepares you for whatever the weather throws at you.
