B-Metro Reporter THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has fired a loud warning shot ahead of the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, promising a no-nonsense approach to reckless drivers, pirate taxis, touts and criminals who threaten public safety In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said officers are out in full force to ensure the 45th anniversary celebrations are crime and accident-free.“We have deployed adequate manpower on the roads to ensure the public travels safely,” he said “Decisive action will be taken against motorists who flout road rules and regulations.” The long list of offenders on ZRP’s radar includes pirate taxis (mushika shika), unroadworthy vehicles, buses without permits, and unregistered or plateless vehicles “These will be impounded,” warned Comm Nyathi

“Drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol will be arrested for the law to take its course.”The police also turned sights on touts who terrorise travellers at bus termini, saying some were now linked to serious crimes “Public service operators are warned against overloading and engaging touts who harass and intimidate potential passengers,” he said Holiday hotspots won’t be spared either, with Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga ordering increased patrols across residential, industrial and city centres.“The crack teams set up to tackle robbery cases will be on high alert and will respond appropriately to reports of armed robbery in the country,” said Comm Nyathi He urged citizens to keep their cash habits low-key
