Preparations are already under way for a historic milestone as the Hillview community gears up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the much-loved Hillview Easter Soccer Tournament, a sporting tradition that has brought generations of football enthusiasts together. The four-day Easter tournament, which has become one of the area’s most cherished community events, will this year honour several pioneers who played a key role in establishing and nurturing the competition over the decades. Among those to be remembered are the late Daddy Moodley and his sons, the late Viasar Moodley and Dayalan Moodley, whose vision and dedication were instrumental in founding and sustaining the tournament in its early years.
In recognition of their immense contribution to local sport and community life, the 2026 edition will officially be known as the 50th Hillview Daddy, Viasar and Dayalan Moodley Easter Soccer Tournament. According to organisers, a number of respected “golden oldies” — many of whom were part of the tournament’s founding group — will also be honoured during the milestone celebration. Their efforts helped transform a modest community football competition into a long-standing Easter tradition that continues to draw players and spectators from across the region.
This year’s golden jubilee celebration will also pay tribute to other dedicated Hillview stalwarts who contributed significantly to the tournament’s success, including the late Kay Parus and CM Pillay. Their commitment and passion for community sport helped build the strong foundation upon which the tournament still stands today. For decades, the Hillview Easter Soccer Tournament has served as a gathering point for families, friends and football lovers, building unity and pride within the community while showcasing local talent.
