Pesident Hakainde Hichilema on Sunday worshipped with the Catholic community at St Joseph of Cupertino Parish, praising the Church for its longstanding contribution to Zambia’s educational and social development. Hichilema, who is on a one-day visit to the Copperbelt Province, told congregants that the government remained grateful for the Catholic Church’s impact on education, health and community services. “Government appreciates the Church’s role not only in education, but also in health services and community development,” he said.

The President thanked the parish leadership for welcoming him and his delegation, which included several cabinet ministers and ruling party officials. The Catholic Church runs some of Zambia’s oldest and most respected mission schools, a legacy that Hichilema said continues to strengthen the nation’s education system. During the Mass, Fr.

Lewis Mutachila, Vicar General of the Ndola Archdiocese, delivered a homily centred on spiritual renewal, urging Christians to seek fulfilment in Christ rather than worldly pursuits. “Things of this world will never fully satisfy anyone, but Christ will, because He is the Bread of Life,” Fr Mutachila said. He encouraged the faithful to use the Lenten season as a time of repentance and deeper connection with God.
