HERENTALS FC have been slapped with a heavy US$5 000 fine and ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors.Premier Soccer League spokesperson Kudzai Bare said Herentals security officials assaulted a fan and a police officer during a match against CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee ruled on the case involving Herentals officials Paradzai Afa and Tairos Ngoma, who were both found guilty of violent and disorderly conduct following the September 13 incident.According to the PSL, one of the club’s security men attacked a fan in the VVIP area, while another turned on a police officer who had made an arrest after the match. In a strongly worded judgment, the Committee said it was disturbed by Herentals’ repeated brushes with the law.“The Committee expressed concern that Herentals FC has become a repeat offender, frequently appearing before the Committee on charges related to violent conduct,” read part of the statement. It further noted that previous punishments had failed to stop the chaos, especially from the same culprits.“The previous sanctions imposed on the club and its officials have not been effective in deterring further misconduct, particularly by the same individuals Mr Afa and Mr Ngoma,” said the PSL.As part of the fresh sanctions, Afa and Ngoma have been banned from performing any official club duties during PSL matches for three seasons, while Herentals will play in empty stadiums for their next three home fixtures, starting with the Matchday 32 clash against Yadah FC.PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare said the league will not tolerate violence in football.“The PSL reiterates its commitment to upholding safety and security in football.

Clubs are urged to ensure that their officials and security personnel are properly trained and that they conduct themselves in accordance with PSL Rules and Regulations,” Bare said.Herentals, who have often found themselves in disciplinary hot water, now face the tough taskof repairing their battered image both on and off the pitch.Leave a ReplyCancel reply
