Nyore Madzianike in MASVINGOVICE PRESIDENT Kembo Mohadi has urged youths to heed the Government’s call to shun drug and substance abuse, warning that the choices they make today will determine their future and that of the nation.He made the call while launching a drug and substance abuse campaign at Shonganiso Mission in Masvingo on Friday, where he also commissioned a computer block at Zivezano Secondary School.As part of the programme, he handed over 50 computers, a Starlink kit, a 10kVA solar system, building materials for student hostels, desks and other learning materials.He also launched the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme, which is being spearheaded by Discovery Ambulance Services in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.VP Mohadi laid wreaths at the tombstones of the late Reverend Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo and his wife at their Shonganiso homestead in honour of their contribution to national development.He also paid tribute to the late Cde Eddison Zvobgo, who died on August 22, 2004.“I want to challenge all learners, members of staff and the whole community of Shonganiso to take advantage of these resources, which can change the livelihood of the community,” he said.“Let us unite and protect these resources for future generations.“As we celebrate the groundbreaking occasion, we reaffirm the Second Republic’s commitment to combating drug and substance abuse.“Last week, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, launched the Presidential Resource Mobilisation Scheme to harness resources to achieve a drug-free society by 2030. We embrace a critical mission that resonates deeply within our communities.“Drug and substance abuse is a challenge that affects many lives, tearing at the very fabric of our society. To the students, I urge you to embrace this message.

You are the leaders of tomorrow, and the choices you make today will shape your future and the future of our nation.”VP Mohadi urged learners to commit to education, prioritise their health and avoid negative influences.“Stay committed to education, prioritise your health and stand against the attraction of drugs and substances that can derail your dreams.“Surround yourselves with positive influences and remember that a drug-free life is a life filled with opportunities and potential,” he said.The Heritage-Based Education 5.0, he added, emphasises teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialisation, with solar-powered computer laboratories and internet access enhancing learning and socio-economic transformation.Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira said drug and substance cause societal ills.“These problems have far-reaching consequences, impacting not only the users, but also their loved ones and society as a whole.“Drug and substance abuse can lead to addiction, health problems, mental health issues and even death,” he said.“It can also contribute to crime, violence and social problems.”Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe also called for stiffer penalties against drug dealers.Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
