HARARE– Thousands of people thronged Werraz Park in Glen View 1, Harare, to witness the provincial competition of the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival. Groups from various districts across Harare showcased their cultural heritage, all vying for the chance to represent the province at the upcoming national competition scheduled for June. Speaking to this publication, Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA) President Mr.

Kennedy Kachuruka said the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival is a collaboration between Delta Beverages, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, and ZNTDA. He emphasized that the festival brings together people from different cultures, allowing them to experience and appreciate each other’s traditions. Mufakose-based Shingai Dance Troupe, who performedMbakumba, a dance with roots in Masvingo — emerged as this year’s winners.

They will now represent Harare at the National Finals . Pasichigare Dance Troupe, who performedMuchongoyo— a dance originating from the Ndau people — finished second. The group expressed excitement at their placement and pledged to return stronger and better prepared next year. They also wished the winners the best at the national competition.
