News / NationalHarare to make it expensive to bury the deadby Staff reporter2 hrs ago |105ViewsThe City of Harare has proposed a significant hike in cemetery and burial fees for 2026, with adult burials at Warren Hills Cemetery expected to rise from US$275 to US$400, according to the draft tariff schedule currently on public deposit.The new tariffs, set to take effect from January 1, 2026, are part of the city’s broader review of service charges and are open for public inspection and objection until December 1, 2025, in line with Section 219 of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15).If approved, non-residents and non-Zimbabweans will face even steeper increases.

Fees for non-resident adult burials are proposed to rise from US$300 to US$450, while burials for non-Zimbabweans would jump from US$395 to US$590.Exhumation charges are also set to increase significantly – from US$350 to US$525.Other city cemeteries, including Granville, Mabvuku, and Greendale, will see similar adjustments.
