Harare — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has approved the resumption of holiday lessons for examination classes during the upcoming August school break The 10-day vacation school will run from August 18 to 29, 2025, focusing on Grade 7, Form 4, and Upper Six learners This marks a shift from the Ministry’s earlier position, which discouraged holiday lessons to prioritize rest for pupils and teachers, and to allow parents time to prepare for upcoming terms The decision reflects the Ministry’s evolving approach to education under the Heritage-Based Curriculum, which emphasizes competence-based, learner-led education supported by emerging technologies
In a circular to schools, Permanent SecretaryMoses Mhikestated:
“The Heritage-Based Curriculum has transformed the role of teachers from being the prime source of information to becoming facilitators of independent, self-led learning “Schools must now embrace blended teaching methods and technology to boost learners’ independent study capacity and allow teachers time to research and stay current with global trends.”
He added that the Ministry is implementing several key strategies to enhance education delivery, including:
Strengthening foundational learning skills
Digitizing teaching and learning
