Diana NhereraHarare mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume says the council will soon start attending to sewer problems in the city following the acquisition of 40 vehicles dedicated to addressing sewer issues.The mayor was speaking during the 1938th Ordinary Council meeting on Thursday.“Already, as part of our agreement, we are going to be receiving 40 vehicles, which are supposed to deal with bursts Soon, we should sign the agreement that will bring the vehicles,” he said.The mayor was responding to councillors concerns that sewer challenges were not being addressed in their wards/Ward 11 Southerton and Mbare Councillor Felix Chabuda said residents in streets such as Dumbujena, Mwamuka, Chinamhora and Samuriwo in Mbarare were living in sewage.“I spoke to the director but he doesn’t come I requested for engineers, but no one has come,” he said.“Directors are there, but those who come to work and see what is going on are not there We are doing the job of the director, engineer.”Ward 30 Glen View Cllr Charles Chidhagu said some areas which the mayor visited have been attended to, except for 98th Crescent and 27th in Glen View 8.“Glen View workshop does not have a vehicle for sewer, and residents have to hire transport for our workers to unblock the chokes,” he said.Ward 3 Cllr Simbarashe Chanachimwe said there was a company building a complex in Majubheki.“So sewer is flowing from Majubheki and going into their complex
They wrote to the council requesting all materials required to repair the sewer lines,” he said.“They said they wrote the letter two months ago, but they have not received a response.”Cllr Mafume requested that the WASH committee to meet so that they deal with specific areas of the mentioned issues.“There are things that are going to be happening in the next few days that will make the vehicles available and they will be used for their intended purpose.“The WASH committee chairperson should call a special meeting and invite councillors with wards experiencing sewer problems to report them.“We are working on an agreement with the private sector to be able to deal with sewer issues the way we dealt with the water issue.“We hope that will be done expeditiously so that we don’t have people complaining about sewer.”Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
