Students from various higher learning institutions on the Copperbelt have endorsed PresidentHakainde Hichilemaas their preferred candidate in the August 13, 2026 general election. The endorsement was made during the Copperbelt Students Meet and Greet the President event held at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe. National Council of Students Union (NACOSU) vice presidentLloyd Nsongetold the Head of State that students across the province had resolved to back him due to the progress recorded in the education sector.

Nsonge emphasised the need for students to rally behind President Hichilema in the forthcoming elections, citing reforms and increased support to learners. Students who spoke during the event thanked government for achievements in the education sector and questioned why the President should not be given another mandate to continue ongoing programmes. β€œWe are grateful to the UPND government for initiatives such as meal allowances, scholarships, and the provision of free education,” saidGiven Chipewo, president of the Copperbelt University Students Union.

Meanwhile,Regina Mwaanga, vice president of the Mukuba University Students Union, thanked the President for ensuring that the girl child is fully considered in education policies. Accepting the endorsement, President Hichilema said he was overwhelmed by the show of support from the students. He reiterated that government places high priority on improving the education sector, describing it as the backbone of the economy.
