IN concerted efforts to retain normalcy in the retail sector where some players were selling counterfeit and expired products, the government has entered into a collaboration with Geo Pomona Waste Management to destroy the confiscated products in a environmentally friendly manner.In an interview with Express Mail Zim this week, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Mangaliso Ndlovu said his ministry has collaborated with Geo Pomona and the City Health Department to destroy all counterfeit products“Take note that all expired products are ordered to be destroyed in the presence of a Health inspector from City Health department. There is collaboration with Geo Pomona dumpsite during this process to promote environment friendliness and cleanliness during waste disposal,” said Ndlovu.He said government has so far seized 715 x 10kgs of counterfeits Pearlenta mealie meal in Harare CBD and the case is pending investiagation/court to identify the criminal syndicates behind this menace.He said the blitz is being conducted across the country.“Manufacturers of unlabelled,substandard products inclusive of beverages,illicit alcoholic beverages are being restricted through issuance of Compliance notices .“In Bulawayo, enforcement activities resulted in confiscation of 14 x 2litres of delta pine expired product, 21 x 500g of lemon creams were found expired 12x 2 litres soft drinks were found expired,”said Ndlovu as he broke down the statistics .Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd is a waste management company led by Dilesh Nguwaya and is dedicated to developing sustainable solutions that minimise negative environmental impact.They utilise innovative technologies and best practices from local and international experts to create a healthier and safer environment for our communities.
