The Zambian government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration and partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable community development across the country. Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Angela Kawandami, made the assurance when George Odhiambo, Country Director for Heifer International, paid a courtesy call on her office on Wednesday. “Such interventions are critical in enabling women to actively contribute to economic growth and drive meaningful social transformation within their communities,” Kawandami said.

She further highlighted the organization’s Pass on the Gift approach, which supports livestock-based livelihoods. Kawandami stated that the initiative not only enhanced household food security and income generation but also fostered community solidarity and strengthens resilience against economic shocks. “The Ministry is ready to scale up the organization’s initiatives through shared responsibility, strategic partnerships, and collective action to maximize impact at community level,” she assured.

Speaking earlier, Odhiambo reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued collaboration with government, including the provision of technical support and capacity building through systems- and process-oriented training. Meanwhile, Djondoh Sikalangwe, an Independent Consultant with Heifer International, commended the Ministry for its proactive and results-driven approach to delivering tangible community development interventions nationwide. He also applauded the dedication and strong work ethic demonstrated by Ministry staff—particularly those serving in rural areas—noting that their commitment has significantly contributed to improved human development outcomes.
