HARARE– A self-styled prophetess from Glen Norah is under intense scrutiny following the tragic death of a pregnant woman who sought her assistance for a home delivery. The husband of the deceased, Ruchiva Misoya, 36, has spoken out about the horrific circumstances surrounding his wife’s death, claiming he found her bleeding from the mouth and nose in a pool of blood at the prophetess’s shrine.Cephas Foya, 37, also tragically lost his child in the incident. He told H-Metro of his ordeal and the disturbing events that followed his wife’s passing.The prophetess, widely known as Madzimai Rumbi, whose real name is Rumbidzayi Sanyamvura, is well known in the Glen Norah area.
According to Cephas, his wife had left home in good health to attend prayers at Madzimai Rumbi’s shrine, located at Tanaka Housing Cooperative. He had no idea she was in danger.“My wife left home walking without any complaints after Madzimai Rumbi asked her to come for prayers, hanzi vaidakumuyeresa asati aenda kuchipatara,” Cephas explained, meaning Madzimai Rumbi wanted to examine her before she went to the hospital.When Ruchiva took longer than expected to return, Cephas went to the shrine to check on her. “Madzimai and her colleagues denied me entry claiming that my wife was delivering, and I insisted I wanted to witness the delivery, unaware that my wife had already passed on,” he said.Cephas recounted the horrifying scene he encountered when he finally forced his way into the shrine.
“When I forced myself into the shrine, I found my wife bleeding from the mouth and nose. It shocked me.” He added, “I am confused and in pain. I cannot understand what kind of prayers were conducted over my wife.”A post-mortem examination conducted at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital confirmed that Ruchiva’s death was due to complications related to high blood pressure.
