The Pietermaritzburg SPCA is slowly being revived, with a fresh coat of dark blue paint bringing new life to its worn buildings. The organisation recently thanked Hutton’s Plumbing for donating primer and paint, which have already been used to repaint two buildings on the property. “Within no time, they were ready and willing to help.

This gesture not only makes our society look great but shows us that there are good people out there willing to help,” the SPCA said in a statement. The donation follows a public appeal made earlier this month, when the SPCA called on the community for assistance with urgent maintenance and repairs. The plea was met with a swift response, with businesses and residents stepping in to offer support within days.

Maintenance committee member Megan Cairns previously toldThe Witnessthat parts of the facility had fallen into disrepair due to vandalism and ageing infrastructure. Sections of the property had been stripped of materials such as roofing, gates and doors, leaving some areas unsafe. “We urgently need financial donations, building material and volunteers willing to provide muscle power,” Cairns said at the time.
