Four young children, aged between two and three, have been killed in a brutal stabbing at a nursery school in Kampala, according to the Uganda Police Force. Police, according to a report by theBBC, said the victims—three boys and one girl—died instantly during the morning attack. Authorities believe the suspect used multiple knives in carrying out the assault.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue. Police say they are working to determine his motive, background, and any other circumstances surrounding what they described as a “heinous crime.” According to police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, angry parents attempted to attack the suspect before officers intervened and took him into custody. Kawala said the suspect had recently visited the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School to inquire about enrolling a child and had been asked to return later.
He reportedly paid admission fees before launching the attack shortly afterward, killing four children before 11:00 local time, when police responded to an emergency call. Ten other children who were present at the school at the time were safely returned to their parents.Investigators remain at the scene in the Ggaba suburb, where the area has been cordoned off. Uganda’s police chief, Abas Byakagaba, has visited the school and urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.
