Four young children, aged between two and three, have been killed in a brutal stabbing at a nursery school in Kampala, according to the Uganda Police Force. A 39-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue. Police say they are working to determine his motive, background, and any other circumstances surrounding what they described as a “heinous crime.” According to police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, angry parents attempted to attack the suspect before officers intervened and took him into custody. Kawala said the suspect had recently visited the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School to inquire about enrolling a child and had been asked to return later.

Ten other children who were present at the school at the time were safely returned to their parents.Investigators remain at the scene in the Ggaba suburb, where the area has been cordoned off. Uganda’s police chief, Abas Byakagaba, has visited the school and urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.
