Four shot dead in suspected ambush near Ezakheni Plaza

Four people have reportedly been shot dead in a vehicle near Ezakheni Plaza outside Ladysmith, in what appears to be a targeted ambush. According to local reports, the victims were travelling in a car when gunmen opened fire, leaving the vehicle riddled with bullets before it veered off the road and came to a stop about 100 metres into a nearby veld. The attackers are said to have continued firing at the vehicle after it left the roadway, with the victims believed to have been found either inside the car or lying nearby.

The motive for the shooting and the circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear. A police comment will be added once it has been received.
