The Anti-Corruption Commission in Kitwe has arrested and charged a former General Manager of Mpulungu Harbour Corporation Limited for alleged corrupt practices involving US$50,000. Davies Kaluba, 52, of House No. 10, 14th Street in Kitwe, has been charged with two counts of wilful failure to comply with applicable procedure, contrary to Section 34(2)(b) of the Anti-Corruption Act No.
3 of 2012. ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications, Chilufya Chisanga, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday. Investigations established that he withdrew US$50,000 from the corporation’s account to purchase a Toyota Quantum bus valued at US$45,000, while the remaining US$5,000 was used to buy CCTV cameras and hard drives.
“The above purchases were not subjected to the required procurement procedures,” Chisanga said. Kaluba has been released on bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
