Football devolution?: Harare snaps Marondera based football team Hunters FC for US$1 million,housing director Dzehonye literaly takes charge of domitory town

Marondera: It has a major blow for Marondera football lovers as Hunters FC franchise is sold in US$1m deal and farmer Andrew Gore succumbed to a ‘hanging carrot’. Football lovers in the farming town of Marondera have to wait a bit longer for a dance in the premier league football after Hunters FC owners (Gore) sold the franchise to Harare City Council (HCC) for US$1m,according to reports. The development impliew that Hunters FC will be now in the PSL adopting the name Harare City FC.

According to the agreement gleaned by Express Mail Zim, Hunters FC was represented by the owner and tobacco farmer Andrew Gore while HCC was represented by embattled Housing Manager Edgar Dzehonye. As part of the deal, HCC is said to be obligated to pay US$400,000 cash while the remainder US$600,000 will be paid in low density residential stands in a ‘barter trade’ model. Hunters FC is going to get at least 10 residential stands measuring above 2500sqm.Also in the deal, Harare City FC will only take on board a total of four players from Hunters FC.

The take over of Hunters FC was endorsed by both government through the Local Government Ministry and a full council by HCC councillors. The teams also boasted of a top goal scorer in the name of Godfrey Dabgwa. Hunters was formed on March 20, 2020, and was initially registered with the ZIFA Mashonaland East Division Two in the same year, and managed to pull through to the Eastern Region Division One in 2022.
