Gutu Teacher Dies After Being Brutally Assaulted By Zanu PF Activists24 September 2025 Gutu Teacher Dies After Being Brutally Assaulted By Zanu PF Activists Christopher Bishi Chikomo, a former teacher at Guni High in Gutu South, passed away on Monday at Masvingo Provincial Hospital, nearly 17 years after being abducted and brutally tortured during the violent July 2008 Presidential election run-off. Chikomo, who endured weeks of captivity in torture camps, never fully recovered from the permanent injuries inflicted on him, including damage to vital organs such as the kidneys and liver. His death serves as a painful reminder of the long-lasting consequences of political violence in the region.
Mujeyi Chamba, another teacher, did not survive the torture camps, having been beaten with logs and left exposed to freezing winter conditions. Chamba left behind a daughter who was forced to leave boarding school due to the familyโs financial hardship, while his widow struggled without employment. โEven after 17 years, justice has never been served, and victims like Chikomo have continued to pay with their health and lives,โ said an opposition activist, condemning the continued impunity in Gutu South, a constituency currently represented by Zanu PFโs Pupurai Togarepi and widely regarded as one of the most politically violent areas in Zimbabwe. Bishi Chikomo is set to be laid to rest on Thursday in Hwendedzo, near Nerupiri, as the community mourns yet another life destroyed by politically motivated brutality.
