A WATERFALLS man asked his teenage daughter whether she was still a virgin before allegedly raping her on multiple occasions until she fell pregnant. The 40-year-old father (whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim) has been arrested. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Sandra Mupindu.
The court heard that in September last year, the girl’s parents separated and her mother moved out of the house. The girl and her younger brother stayed with their father at their two-roomed house. It is alleged that on October 1, the father arrived home from work and his daughter was asleep in the bedroom while her brother was asleep in the kitchen.
The father went straight to the bedroom and asked the girl if she was still a virgin. The father went into the kitchen briefly then returned to the bedroom and raped her. After raping his child, the father told her not to disclose the incident to anyone as he would get arrested and there would be no one to take care of her and her brother.

In November, the daughter missed her period and told her father who comforted her by telling her that it was normal. The matter came to light early this month when the girl suspected that she was pregnant and went to buy a pregnancy test. The nurse who attended to her questioned her on why she wanted to buy the test and that was when she revealed the rape. The nurse contacted the girl’s mother who escorted her daughter to the police and filed a police report.
