This step is of great importance in safeguarding peace, preserving the two-state solution, and fulfilling the long-overdue recognition of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions.This historic recognition comes after decades of suffering, sacrifices, oppression, and bloodshed endured by the Palestinian people, which continue to this day under Israeli occupation. The recognition of the State of Palestine by the United Kingdom in particular carries profound significance, as it was the country that issued the Balfour Declaration more than a century ago, which was the principal reason for the establishment of the occupying state on the land of Palestine and the ethnic cleansing of around 70% of the Palestinians in 1948.
This recognition represents a correction to a historical wrong and an advanced step toward justice for the Palestinian people, who have long suffered from the consequences of that declaration and the injustices that followed.In the face of the ongoing schemes by the extremist Israeli government to eliminate the indigenous Palestinian existence and heritage, this recognition is a vital decision to consolidate international efforts for peace, end the genocide in the Gaza Strip, and counter unilateral Israeli annexation plans in the West Bank that constitute grave violations of international law and any prospects for peace.The FATAH Movement praises the courageous stance of the UK, Australia, Canada, and Portugal, appreciating their alignment with the values of justice and freedom at a time when the Palestinian people are subjected to aggression, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement. FATAH calls upon all states that have not yet recognized the state of Palestine to follow suite and fulfil their moral, legal, and historical responsibilities in protecting the two-state solution and the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence along the 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the right of return for the Palestinian refugees in accordance with the principles of international law and relevant UN resolutions.FATAH also urges the international community to take immediate and decisive measures to end the Israeli-made famine and genocide in the Gaza Strip, and to curb the terrorism of Israeli colonial settlers in the West Bank. The humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine is extremely critical and demands urgent international intervention to protect and save the lives of Palestinian civilians from the ongoing brutality of the Israeli occupation.Freedom to Palestine.
