The family of Scelo Fane Mwelase (35), from Ezinketheni in Pietermaritzburg, is calling for justice after he was brutally murdered in front of his two children in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to his uncle, Mandla Mwelase, his nephew’s head was smashed with a bottle, and he was stabbed multiple times, with the knife left stuck in his abdomen, allegedly by someone close to him. Mandla said he was woken by his Mwelase’s child crying, who said his father was being attacked by a person well known to them.
Mwelase was rushed to hospital in a private vehicle, but was declared dead on arrival. Mandla said the family is devastated and frustrated that the suspect is still at large. “She must be arrested and held accountable,” he said.
He added that this incident occurred in Scelo’s one-room home. “We don’t know why he was killed. He loved his family dearly,” said his uncle.
