A new airline operated by the Rural and Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) launched its maiden flight between Harare and Beitbridge, marking a major step in Zimbabwe’s aviation sector.

The Falcon Air aircraft completed the 1 hour 30 minute journey and landed in Beitbridge at 10.15am. The trip served as the official inaugural route between the two centres.

On board the flight were senior Government officials, including the acting Deputy Chief Secretary, Dr Micheal Musanjika, RIDA director general Mr Christopher Shumba, and other senior officials from Government and customs departments.

The delegation was received at the Beitbridge Airport by the Provincial Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution (Matabeleland South), Ms Latiso Dlamini-Maseko, together with members of the local community.

In brief remarks, officials highlighted the importance of improving domestic air connectivity. Mr Shumba described the launch as “a practical step in strengthening transport infrastructure and supporting economic activity.”.

Falcon Air is expected to operate regular weekly flights between Harare and Beitbridge. According to RIDA, the service will provide a more efficient travel option for passengers who move between the two towns for business, administrative work, and trade.

Local authorities said the new route would help unlock economic opportunities. Ms Dlamini-Maseko noted that the region stood to benefit from increased movement of people and services, saying, “This connection will support tourism, trade, and other key activities in our province.”.

The development is projected to strengthen economic ties between Harare and Beitbridge, with improved air travel anticipated to drive growth in trade, tourism, and business operations.

The launch forms part of ongoing national efforts to modernise transport infrastructure and promote economic development across the country.
