An incident during an interschools rugby match has tongues wagging across Cape Town after a racial slur was allegedly used during the game on Saturday, August 1. A rugby match between The Settlers High from Bellville and Fairmont High from Durbanville ended abruptly after one of the referees stopped the game after a racial slur was uttered. It is alleged that a learner from Fairmont High School used the k-word towards a learner from The Settlers High.

Both schools have since assured their learners, parents, and schooling communities that they would be investigating the matter. Fairmont High School’s communication to its schooling community. In a letter, Fairmont High School’s principal stated the school was aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred during the interschool match.
