The East and Southern Africa Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Network (ESA SUN CSN) reached a key milestone in the fight against malnutrition during a regional Strategy Validation and Learning Meeting held on Thursday The five-day event, hosted by Zimbabwe’s Civil Society Organization Network for Scaling Up Nutrition in Africa (ZCSOSUNA), brought together delegates from Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Kenya to validate theESA SUN CSNRegional Strategy for 2026–2030, develop a unified operational framework, and lay the foundation for sustainable implementation across member countries The new strategy outlines a clear mission, vision, guiding principles, and strategic priorities, all designed to accelerate progress against malnutrition and promote long-term, systemic change A key highlight of the meeting was the engagement with the Mashonaland West Provincial Food and Nutrition Security Committee (PFNSC)

Delegates learned firsthand about the committee’s multi-stakeholder coordination approach—through quarterly meetings, joint monitoring visits, and a data-driven framework—which has become a model of effective nutrition governance in the region Promoting inclusive civil society participation in nutrition policy

Advocating for increased financial commitment to nutrition

Leveraging evidence and learning to shape decisions and action

Incorporating media into advocacy and communication efforts was also emphasized, especially for amplifying success stories and facilitating cross-country learning visits to share best practices Guided by its Strategy 3.0, the ESA SUN CSN is determined to consolidate past learnings, scale up impactful practices, and ensure lasting sustainability in the fight against malnutrition As the meeting concluded, participants left energized and united in their mission—better equipped to address the multifaceted challenges of malnutrition in their home countries
