A GANG of 11 people, including six women, was arrested on Tuesday after being caught with 200kgs of dagga. They were traveling on a long-distance bus from a neighbouring country, along the Bulawayo-Harare highway, on their way to the capital. Authorities found the dagga concealed in parcels wrapped in thick plastic and disguised under blankets in the bus’s cargo area.
Police also found boxes of illicit beverages, covered with blankets. They had been sprayed with perfume, which was likely an attempt to mask their true contents. National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrests.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of 11 suspects involved in drug peddling and trafficking,” Comm Nyathi said. “Our CID Drugs and Narcotics section acted on credible information, leading to this successful operation. “The drugs were arranged in such a cunning manner that one would assume they were merely blankets.

“The presence of both men and women among the suspects suggests the existence of a well-organised syndicate.” “There is no turning back in our fight against drugs and substances. “They affect people of all ages, and no one is spared. “The abuse of drugs has been linked to a rise in serious crimes, including robbery, murder, and rape.” There are also reports that 500 kgs of dagga were seized at one of the country’s border posts.
