Ekhaya FC yesterday beat Goshen City Dedza Dynamos 1-0 to win the 2026 pre-season Premier Bet Sapitwa 4 Football Tournament at Mulanje Stadium. Chimwemwe Chunga’s 54th-minute strike was enough to seal the title for The Cowboys with seven points from two games, a point ahead of second-placed Red Lions and three better than third-positioned Dynamos. Reigning Super League champions Mighty Wanderers finished at the bottom of the four-team tournament with three points.
Chunga bagged both the player of the match and player of the tournament accolades to take home K500 000 prize from MMM Investiment. Ekhaya coach Enos Chatama was excited with the feat, saying: “It feels great to be the champions on our second appearance in this tournament. Nevertheless, what matters most is that this competition has helped us prepare for the 2026 season.” But the shock result of the tournament was Wanderers’ 2-1 loss to NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) champions Red Lions od Zomba in their last match earlier on.
Wanderers broke the deadlock just before the break through Lemani Kasiya’s strike, but Lions took the second half by storm with super substitute Kaliwo Harawa scoring a brace within a space on nine minutes to put them ahead. He restored parity in the 71st minute before sealing Lions’ victory in the 80th minute. Lead organiser of the two-day tournament Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the competition’s rules stipulate that four points are awarded for a straight win, three for a draw with goals and two points for a goalless draw.

A win on penalties, which were played regardless of regulation time results, guaranteed a bonus point. This was the fourth edition of Sapitwa 4 Tournament. FCB Nyasa Bullets won last year’s tournament after beating Ekhaya in the final while Bangwe All Stars of Blantyre, won the first two editions.
