According to police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the breakthrough came after detectives from CID Beitbridge traced Future Moyo, who was implicated in a robbery on July 27, 2025.
In that incident, an airtime vendor in Garikai was robbed of ZAR 15,000 and two cellphones. “Moyo was arrested while offloading airtime vouchers at cut-price rates, which raised suspicion,” said Nyathi. “His confession led investigators to the rest of the syndicate. ”
During the operation, police recovered a Girsan pistol with 36 rounds, two vehicles used as getaway cars—a Honda Fit (AEO 9989) and a Toyota Probox (AGT 7877)—along with airtime vouchers worth US$310.
The suspects have been linked to at least nine armed robberies, including:
July 1, 2025: A house in SDP New Stands was raided, with ZAR 4,000, US$3,000, and two phones stolen.
July 16, 2025: A shop at SDP New Stands was robbed of ZAR 27,100, US$130, two phones, and shoes.
August 13, 2025: An airtime vendor in Dulibadzimu lost US$1,200, ZAR 2,000, and airtime worth US$2,500.
Another major hit involved ZAR 99,400 and US$1,550 taken from a house in New Stands.
