Overloading is not a minor traffic offence; it is a conscious decision that dramatically increases the chances of a catastrophic accident. A vehicle carrying nearly three times its intended capacity has reduced braking efficiency, compromised stability and is far more difficult to control, especially on gravel roads or when emergency manoeuvres become necessary.
Zimbabwe has mourned far too many people who lost their lives because of reckless driving, speeding and overloading. Time and again, accident reports reveal that vehicles were carrying more passengers than they were designed for. Families have buried loved ones because someone decided that making a few extra dollars was more important than protecting human life.
