A scholar transport driver who was involved in a fatal crash in KwaMashu has handed himself over to the police. A scholar transport driver, who was involved in afatal Durban crashin which a child died and 14 others were injured, has handed himself over to authorities. The children were travelling from daycare centres when the minibus taxi overturned in Mount Moriah, KwaMashu on Wednesday.
It was reported earlier that the driver had fled the scene. In a statement on Thursday afternoon, KwaZulu-Natal Transport Siboniso Duma confirmed that the driver had handed himself over to the Phoenix police. In a voice note, Duma’s spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said Duma had announced that the Road Traffic Inspectorate team is working with the Durban Metro Police to strengthen the integrated law enforcement programme focusing on scholar transport safety.
A child was killed and 14 were injured when a scholar transport taxi overturned in Mount Moriah, KwaMashu on Wednesday afternoon. Duma conveyed condolences to the family of the child who died in the tragic incident. “We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of a child that died tragically,” said Duma.
