The Durban Metro Police has revealed that more than 130 drivers were arrested for drunk driving. The Durban Metro Policehave revealed that more than 130 drivers were arrested for drunk driving during coordinated roadblocks acrossDurbanon Friday night. The arrests happened during a coordinated effort with theRoad Traffic Inspectorate (RTI)and the South African Police Service (SAPS) to improve road safety and reduce criminal activity across the city.

“Last night, the Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS), working in collaboration with RTI and SAPS, conducted coordinated roadblock operations across various parts of Durban as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and curb criminal activity”. According to the police, the arrests were made at key areas, including Point, Umbilo, Durban Central, and Durban North, with the highest number of arrests, 45, recorded in Durban North. The police also revealed that during the operation, one of the suspects arrested was identified as a member of the Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS), adding “this reinforces the principle that no one is above the law”.
