Dream big, Miss Malawi tells girls

Miss Malawi 2025 Thandi Chisi has encouraged young girls to dream big and believe in their potential, saying athey should pursue their ambitions to make meaningful impact in their communities. She made the remarks on Saturday in Lilongwe during an International Women’s Day event she hosted alongside the Miss Malawi Organisation. The event brought together students and women leaders, including the First Vice-President Jane Ansah and others from different sectors to share experiences and inspire the next generation.

Said Chisi: “As a dreamer myself, I always encourage young people to dream boldly and believe in themselves because self-belief cannot come from anyone else. “Young girls should know they can become everything they want if they put their mind to it.” The Miss Malawi encouraged them to work hard in school and believe that the nation is waiting for bold and courageous women ready to contribute to its development. She also emphasised that for her, the title has become a platform for leadership and empowerment, saying the modern Miss Malawi accolade looks beyond outward beauty but other abilities to change in communities.

Chisi said she hopes her journey will motivate more young women to participate in the pageant and use the platform to contribute to society while they pursue other passions. In her remarks, Ansah commended the Miss Malawi Organisation for creating opportunities that inspire young women to pursue leadership and contribute to national development. She encouraged young girls to be bold and rise above challenging circumstances, saying women’s participation in leadership is essential for national progress.

“Empowering women is not simply a matter of fairness. It is a fundamental requirement for sustainable development,” said Ansah. Meanwhile, Miss Malawi Organisation official Godfrey Kambewa said the organisation is intentionally repositioning the pageant to focus more on empowerment and social impact.

“We are repositioning the Miss Malawi platform so that it becomes a tool for empowering women and giving them a voice to influence society,” he said. During the event, a panel discussion featuring women from different professions also encouraged girls to pursue opportunities beyond traditional expectations.
