A 25-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after the Madadeni Regional Court sentenced him to two life terms for raping two minor boys in August 2024. The boys, who were friends, were aged 13 and nine-years-old at the time of the offence. On the day of the incident, the boys were playing together when an older relative asked if they could accompany her to a friend’s house, where she was going to study.
While the relative and her friends studied inside the house, the accused arrived at the residence and allegedly invited the boys to a garage which he was using as his bedroom. He then locked the door, proceeded to violate them then let them go. After the study session, the trio walked back home and the boys did not report the incident.
A week later, the elder boys’ teacher noticed that he was not feeling well. The school contacted his grandmother who took him home. On their way, the boy detailed what had occurred and he was immediately taken to the Madadeni Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) where he was examined by a doctor and the family of the younger boy was made aware of the incident.

When questioned the second boy confirmed the incident and they both identified the accused who was subsequently arrested. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the testimonies of the boys, their grandmother and the relative who had taken them to the residence where the rape occurred strengthened the state’s case. “Further evidence included testimony from the investigating officer and the medical doctor who conducted examinations on both complainants.
