Sikhumbuzo MoyoTHE Deputy Minister for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Simelisizwe Sibanda sourced laptops and sets of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) gadgets for Esiphikeni Secondary School, in Bubi District, Matabeleland North province.Deputy Minister Sibanda, who is also the Bubi legislator, said the gadgets, which he handed over on Monday, were part of pre-election promises he made. The donation included laptops (with bags and accessories), an HP printer, a multimedia projector, a Starlink kit for internet access, and a whiteboard — a powerful digital package mobilised in partnership with the Ministry of Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services and the President’s Office.Monday’s handover marked the fifth similar gesture by Cde Sibanda following previous handovers to Siganda, Mangubeni, Tame Secondary and Tame Primary Schools respectively.Speaking at the handover ceremony attended by learners, ward 14 villagers and school heads from surrounding schools, Cde Sibanda, who is also the Deputy Minister of Higher And Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development said the gadgets will go a long way in empowering learners, teachers and communities with the tools they need to thrive in the digital age.“This event is not just about handing over devices, it is about opening doors of opportunity, creating pathways for innovation, and ensuring that our constituency moves forward in line with Vision 2030, the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), and the soon-to-be-implemented NDS2,” said Cde Sibanda. He said just as President Mnangagwa has consistently reminded the nation that no one and no place will be left behind, the donation to Esiphikeni Secondary School was a living testimony to that.He said the thrust by President Mnangagwa is a call to action to ensure that rural communities, like Bubi, are not spectators but active participants in the technological, educational and economic transformation of the nation.“This donation to Esiphikeni Secondary School, the fifth after Siganda Secondary, Mangubeni Secondary, Tame Secondary and Tame Primary ols is proof that as your MP, I keep my promises. Before my election as your MP in August 2023, I pledged to and continue prioritising education and ICT development in our constituency, and today is a demonstration that we are walking the talk,” said Cde Sibanda. He said the gesture reflects his commitment to fulfilling the policy direction set President Mnangagwa, who has emphasized the need to modernize education and build a digitally literate generation that will drive the country towards an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.Cde Sibanda said as the Bubi constituency legislator and Deputy Minister for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, he strongly believes that access to ICT is the foundation for improving the quality of education in the constituency.Cde Sibanda said the laptops and ICT gadgets will not only enhance teaching and learning but will also improve the pass rate of the learners at the School and beyond, adding that a higher pass rate means that more youths from Bubi will qualify to access higher and tertiary education, giving them opportunities to become engineers, scientists, innovators, and leaders who will shape the future of Zimbabwe.Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
