CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 85NewsJOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg mansion of the late Zimbabwean tycoon Mutumwa Mawere is being sold by the bank after he defaulted on a loan.Court papers seen by Express Mail Zim states that the property is located at 62 Cambridge Avenue in the leafy surburb of Bryanston.The proposed sale seals Mawere’s grave and is the final collapse of an empire destroyed years earlier by the government of the late former president Robert Gabriel Mugabe whose sons are ironically ‘living lavida loca’ with his namesake and son making headlines for wrong reasons and seemingly getting justice immunity in tandem with his mother Gucci Grace’s vow that Mugabe will ‘rule from the grave’Mawere once controlled a vast business empire, Shabanie Mashaba Mines (SMM Holdings) and was considered a multi -millionaire.In 2004, the Mugabe regime seized his Zimbabwean assets under a controversial law claiming that his companies owed the State money.Mawere then went into self imposed exile in South Africa and fought the seizure in court for over a decade but was unable to recover his fortune.The financial strain followed him to South Africa just like wrangles and family feud surrounding his burial at Four Ways Memorial Park on Monday.In his later years, he used the Bryanston and other property to secure loans and fund the lavish life of his girlfriend Nomsa who was part of the conspirators to ‘grab’ his lifeless body and sideline his biological children and close family.Even his wife Thokozani Chitepo, the daughter of revered late hero Herbert Chitepo was also sidelined from the funeral wake.The architect of the dispute was his martenal cousin Dr Machiri who according to our credible inside sources, orchestrated a plan to take the late Mawere to an old people’s home without consent from siblings or children.“Mai Machiri is a daughter to Mawere’s aunt who is his mother’s sister and without consultation she Nicodemusly approached the courts and took Mawere to Pioneer Old People’s Home and no one had a chance to have access to him from the immediate family until his death, that is why the immediate family snubbed the burial ,” said our source who preferred anonymity.Misfortune was unfaithful to Mutumwa even posthumously and trailed him like Tunzi(the faithful shadow).The foreclosure follows years of financial difficulty for Mawere, which included a very public clash with the late Zimbabwean socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure.An equally controversial Kadungure publicly claimed that Mawere owed him $17 000 from a car deal.The dispute played out in the media and was a sign of the cash flow problems facing the once powerful businessman.A spokesman for the Mawere family confirmed the sale is a private matter related to the estate.
