A new World Health Organisation (WHO) health and environmental scorecard has laid bare a deadly public health crisis in Botswana, revealing that nearly 7 out of every 10 diarrhoea-related deaths in the country are linked to unsafe drinking water, poor sanitation and inadequate hygiene.
According to the WHO’s assessment, 66% of deaths from diarrhoea in Botswana are attributed to unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor personal hygiene, a grim statistic in a country where diarrhoea continues to be a leading cause of death among infants and young children mostly due to dehydration.
