The DA has announced that Privi Makhan will be its candidate for the mayoral chains in KwaDukuza as campaigning for the upcoming local government elections heats up. The announcement was made by the party’s KZN provincial leader, Francois Rodgers and the KZN chairperson, Dean Macpherson, at the KwaDukuza People’s Park on Tuesday morning. In her inaugural address as the party’s candidate, Makhan said improving basic infrastructure, including roads, electricity, water, waste collection and stormwater drain cleaning, would be her top priority.
When the basics work, businesses grow, when businesses grow, the jobs will follow. She said KwaDukuza residents were tired of empty promises to improve the delivery of those services and the normalisation of corruption. Makhan said she would move to upgrade all ageing substations, invest in preventative maintenance, and professionalise the departments so qualified technicians are leading key infrastructure departments.
“We fast-track alternative energy solutions to reduce pressure on the grid and protect residents from unnecessary outages. “And most importantly, we will ensure that blocked capital projects like the R240 million Dukuza Substation get underway immediately,” she said. On corruption, Makhan said revenue leaks must be stopped and that she will end the leaks by improving internal controls and management.
