Two suspected drug dealers were arrested in separate operations in Newcastle after police recovered crystal meth and cash, KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said officers, working alongside private security personnel, arrested the suspects on Monday. He said members of the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit had received information about a suspect who allegedly collected drugs in Gauteng and was travelling back to Newcastle.
“The suspected individual was monitored until the team pounced on him at the Newcastle central business district,” Magwaza said. The 37-year-old suspect was found in possession of drugs, and a subsequent search at his residence led to the recovery of crystal meth. Magwaza added that the suspect was already out on bail for a drug-related offence and was charged with dealing in drugs.
In a separate operation on the same day, police received information about another suspected drug dealer who was allegedly about to leave his home with a large quantity of drugs. “Police officers managed to corner the suspect just before he could leave his house,” Magwaza said. A search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of crystal meth as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
