Crystal meth bust in maronderachaminukapublished on2 september 2025bynew zianamdma the main ingredient in ecstasy pills in its pure form.Staff reportermarondera – a suspected drug dealer, takudzwa gondo, was arrested last week in the nyameni suburb of marondera following a tip-off that led to the discovery of crystal methamphetamine and other dangerous substances worth an estimated us$7,200.The arrest was carried out by detectives from the criminal investigations department (cid) drugs section in mashonaland east, who responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about drug activity at a residential property in the area.The operation took place on the morning of august 19, at house number 738 mbuya nehanda street.
A team of cid officers was dispatched to the scene and found gondo standing casually outside the house near a sink, holding a yellow bucket in one hand and a bundle of tissues in the other.The detectives conducted a search that quickly turned up incriminating evidence. Inside the tissues gondo held, they discovered a small sachet containing what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine, weighing approximately five grammes.A further search beneath the sink where gondo had been standing led to the discovery of three more sachets, also wrapped in tissues, containing about 13 grammes of the same suspected substance.
Gondo was immediately arrested and taken to the cid drugs office for further questioning.A preliminary drug test was carried out in his presence, confirming the presence of multiple controlled substances. These included methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, opiates, and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (commonly known as mdma or ecstasy).Authorities estimate the total street value of the seized drugs at us$7,200, a significant haul in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the province.
Police have since reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and illegal distribution networks that continue to pose a serious threat to public health and safety, particularly among youth in urban and peri-urban areas.Investigations into the source of the drugs and the extent of gondo’s operations are still underway.
