Crestway High in Retreat has shown that it’s never too late to turn things around after their National Senior Certificate (NSC) results jumped from 39.9% in 2023 to 84.5%, seeing a 41.7% increase in its Bachelor’s pass rate. The Western Cape Education Department said the school’s pass rate was 35.9% in 2023, climbed to 66.1% in 2024, and has now reached 84.5% in 2025.
The department said the school’s bachelor’s pass rate increased from 10.7% to 41.7% over the same period. Principal Cheryl Jacobs has watched the learners and teachers working towards achieving their goals and putting in the hours. “We are extremely proud of the achievement of the class of 2025,” she told the Cape Argus.
“The improved NSC results are the outcome of deliberate turnaround strategies we put in place and reflect the hard work and commitment of our learners, the dedication of our teachers, and the strong support from our parents and the wider school community. “Our focus on targeted support, consistent monitoring, high expectations, and accountability on all levels has made a meaningful difference, and we are committed to sustaining and building on these gains.” Education MEC David Maynier agreed that hard work paid off and was marked with resilience and determination. He said this meant so many doors would be opened to those who continued on this path of success.
