THE Constitutional Court has refused to halt Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti’s decision to declare the Chawama parliamentary seat vacant. On Monday, Constitutional lawyer Tresford Chali dragged Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha to the Constitutional Court, seeking an order to declare null and void Mutti’s decision to declare Tasila Lungu’s seat vacant. Chali was also demanding an order to stay the ruling of Speaker Mutti until full determination of his petition.
However, the Constitutional Court says Chali has not provided any evidence demonstrating that Tasila, who has been absent from Parliament since June 2025, would be available when Bill 7 is expected to be tabled before the House as per his argument.
