Citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has once again challenged the legitimacy of Zimbabwe’s previous two general elections, accusing the Emmerson Mnangagwa-led regime of rigging both the 2018 and 2023 polls In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Chamisa insisted that the truth about the disputed outcomes cannot remain hidden forever and declared that Zimbabweans had overwhelmingly voted for change—only to be denied their will through electoral manipulation “The truth cannot be buried,” Chamisa declared “The fullness of time will vindicate us, no matter how nay and doomsayers might try to blur the lines of truth and history.”
He claimed that citizens had voted for his leadership in both elections
“Dear citizens, you won emphatically in 2018 and prevailed again in 2023,” he said “Sooner or later, the honest truth about what exactly transpired in the last two elections shall come out.”
Using African proverbs to reinforce his message, Chamisa added, “That which has horns cannot be wrapped Okulempondo akufihlwa emgodleni Rine manyanga hariputirwe.”
While Chamisa has repeatedly accused the ruling ZANU PF party of manipulating electoral outcomes, Zimbabwe’s electoral commission and the government have consistently denied allegations of rigging
However, both the 2018 and 2023 elections were widely criticised by international observers for lacking transparency and fairness Chamisa ended his message with the hashtag #TheNewRise and his signature phrase #GodIsInIt, signaling continued defiance and hope for what he calls a “citizens’ government.”
